Project Spotlight: Woods Bagot
At the beginning of this year, we completed the new workspace for Woods Bagot, and finally received the photos! As an architecture firm, Woods Bagot connected with us about their upcoming office build-out and relocation because they needed someone to lead an organized workspace transition to cover all the details so their team could focus on client work. Thanks to the partnership with BCCI Construction Company, two*, CRI San Francisco, COG, and many others, Woods Bagot is loving their new studio. Photos by Bruce Damonte.

Talking With An Expert Engineer:

Recently we had the opportunity to interview ESD’s engineering studio lead, James Gronek. ESD is an engineering consulting practice with expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design as well as technology design including structured cabling, audiovisual, security, wifi, and sound masking systems.
Q. What part of your job do you love the most?
I enjoy mentoring my team, sharing both my engineering and consulting expertise, and watching them succeed.
Q. Where do you find clients being their own worst enemy?
The biggest challenge we run into is when there are too many stakeholders on a project, especially ones with aggressive schedules, as it can inhibit making timely decisions.
Q. What’s a project you were involved with recently that you’re really proud of?
We recently completed a project for a law firm at One Embarcadero Center. The client wanted a really unique ceiling design with stretch fabric ceiling panels. Due to the limited access in the ceiling design, we had to carefully coordinate locations of mechanical and electrical equipment as well as develop unique diffuser installation details to integrate with the fabric panels.
Q. Where has technology evolved your side of this business the most over the last 10 years?
Where tech has made the most difference is in the ability to easily work and collaborate with offices in different locations through the effective use of video conferencing and interactive screen sharing services.
